The D7xxx has a motor built into the body.. This makes it compatible (Auto focus) with
many different lenses not just AF-S DX lenses. Look up the lens you are interested in and most likely it is compatible. Many lenses not compatible with D5xxx and D3xxx will be with the D7xxx.

Look in the Users Manual for more details.
But besides the additional 1.5x zoom i will be getting will i be able to use the FX(normal) lens to full potential?

First you will not get additional 1.5 zoom. And second, yes you will be able to use the FX lens to their full potential.

I thought if I use a fx lens on dx body with a 1.5x crop. A 50mm fx lens would act like a 75mm

It's the DX that crops. But a 50 mmDX lens will give you exactly the same view as a 50mm FX lens on DX. It's good for the reach, but when you want to go wide angle, it is then that it becomes a handicap.

Ok so I will get the same "zoom" on a 50 mm fx lens whether it be on a dx or fx body but on the dx body I will get a smaller field of view? Which essentially makes its look more zoomed in. And I will take a look at that link. Thanks.

That crop can be an advantage in sharpness when using FX lenses on DX because the corners are cropped out. If you have an FX lens with soft corners it's less of an issue on DX.

I'm planning an upgrade to FX but I still plan to use my D7000 as my "walk around" camera. My strategy for new lenses has been to buy FX for the future and use them on the DX. One exception....wide angle. I would buy one good DX wide angle zoom. And there are lots of good options depending on your budget.

Weird. If I had a ff, that would be my walk around camera, hah. I'd use my DX for backup or weddings if I needed a second camera.
