D600 or D7100

As far as dust goes, if you change lenses you will have dust to clean. And probably even if you don't change lenses. That goes for any DSLR out there, D1 to D800. The dust reduction built into the newer Nikon's really help things. Cleaning sensors is not too difficult.

The question was about which DSLR to purchase within the Nikon line, and, if not NIkon, a Canon. My first response is that you have to hold the cameras, see what feels right, put lenses on them in the store to see which ones feel right to you. Both Nikon and Canons could meet your needs, but maybe you need to feel the differences between them. When i purchased my D7000, I also checked out some comparable canon cameras, but the Nikon felt better in my hand. I took a canon point and shoot to Italy and shot some pictures that i have hanging up on the walls in my home. Each renders color beautifully, but only you and your hand can tell you which camera feels right to you. I would think that both the 7100 and the 600 are great cameras, but you need to decide what you want to spend and what feel right. Good luck. I have found that with my 7000 i have camera envy: a desire to trade up to further my interests in photography.

that's fine. the dust/oil fear has me nervous as well. Pity, the D600 has so much to offer. It is on my short list, along with the 7100, for a summer trade up. Actually, overwhelmed by work these days, and bad weather, i have not used my 7000 for anything but a handful of shots indoors.

I'm contemplating a move to the D7100. The D7000 has been a great camera for me, but the D7100 with it's fast focus, 1.3 crop & 24mp sensor really interests me as a motorsport shooter. I only wish it had a larger buffer. It will be interesting to hear what folks think of them when they reach the early buyers.

To Atlas&Elm: i am curious why you left canon. Was it for the D600, the Nikon lenses . . . why? It might help illuminate the issues for
the question here about the 600 and 7100. thanks
