D600 Dirt/Oil problem still exist?

I guess I consider myself lucky. My shutter count is 2889 and I have only experienced a few specs of dust on my sensor. They were not in the usual corner location, but more towards the center. I change lens frequently, so that could account for it. But whatever I get on my sensor I am able to blow off with my Rocketblaster. I bought a sensor swab kit when I bought the camera, but I have not needed to use it yet (Crosses fingers). I really hope they solve your problem this time. Although I have not had to send my D600 in for repair, I know how it is to send something in and have to wait for it. Even worse so when there is an uncertainty of whether it will be properly repaired when returned.

Good luck, Bob.

Mine second 600 is boxed up and it's going back to Costco today. I'm hoping that this one is a late enough model that the problem is resolved...

I hope you're right. There's just something about "big box" and "old merchandise" that seems to go hand in glove, so keep your fingers crossed.

Took it back to Costco and they didn't have any other cameras available aside from the demo model. So I got a refund and I'm getting one from my local B&M, a place called the Shutterbug. It's also a kit and comes with the bag (which I don't want or need) a 32gb card (don't need that either) and the 28-300mm Nikon lens which is nice since I'll be able to drop one lens from my bag. It does cost $400 more, but I'm fine with that. Hopefully this is a later model that won't have any issues...

That's a real nice package. Had a 28-300mm and it's a good, solid lens. Sort of kicking myself for selling it because it's the ultimate vacation lens on an FX camera - one body, one lens and you never need to change anything. Not that there aren't sharper lenses at some focal lengths, but for walking around it's hard to beat.

Just picked up the "new" one today. Unfortunately it looks like it's a much older model based on the serial numbers. The old one was 66,683 and the new one is 36,048. Oh well I'll just wait and see what happens with it. I did update the firmware with no issues.

Jake, I've been wondering about the 28-300 for a trip next year as I don't want to haul everything around. I used to have the 18-200 DX lens on my 300 and I was happy with that. Is it comparable or better than that?

The one I have with the issue is: 6030xxx..comparatively a far larger serial than either.. I'd guess worldwide serial numbers are not sequential unless all Nikons of the same model are made in the same factory...?

That's a good question, I assumed that they were sequential regardless of where they were made, but I really have no idea.

I've not used the 18-200mm so I can't comment.

Why does this have to be the problem. I would like to purchase knowing I will not have to give it up for 3 weeks. Maybe I'm over thinking the problem.

I got the D600 with the 28-300 a few weeks ago and thus far am very happy with it. Below is my first picture with the new camera and lens. I also got some great shots at my son's soccer game with the lens... DSC_0147.jpg

I never had the problem that Jake has had to that degree. I recently gave the camera a lot of use shooting a party big enough to be similar to a wedding. I was also showing someone the lenses I had. Suffice to say it got a bit of a workout.
When I got home I checked for dust/oil and was pleased that the only debris was a tiny hair. I was able to clean it up by lifting the mirror and using a blower.
The camera now has 3035 shots and the issue is just about inconsequential.

I haven't tried to be honest. I'm assuming it's difficult?

No, takes about 5-10 minutes. I had never done it until I got the D600. I have only blown mine off and dry cleaned it twice over the last 3700 shots, plan to wet clean it soon. This to me is two things, a disappointment and a big deal over a minor issue. If a shot 500+ shots a week it would bother me, but thats not my situation. It slows down over time and I'm hoping dissapears.

Okay, doesn't sound too bad. Any tutorials that you used or did you have prior knowledge?
