D5100 + Android?

Hi!

Does anyone use their Android tablet to load images from D5100 (or any other Nikon DSLR) ?
If so, do you use any specific apps for this task?

I read you will need usb-host function on your Android - or you will need to get usb-otg cable for it.
So based on that, what type of USB is D5100 using? Is it USB-MicroB? Or is it something else?

Thanks!

I've loaded photos from my D7000 to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 when I've been on the road without my laptop and needed to email a photo. (Snapseed is a pretty versatile app for editing on the go... give it a shot if you haven't yet.) I found the simplest way to do this was to buy the SD card to 30 pin adapter from Samsung (I got mine off Amazon for $30 and it came with a 30-pin to USB adapter as well). I just plug the adapter into the tablet, insert the SD card and use a file management app to copy the photos over. I reformat the card when I put it back in the camera, and I haven't had any problems. Hope this helps!

You are correct with the usb-otg cable. Specifically what tablet is it? You can then use a program like DSLR Dashboard to manage pics / take pics directly if you want.

I used to carry the host cable and a card reader w/ me as well, and both my SGS2 and Nokia E6 are capable of this feature. Now, I did try to cross-host the two in the past and I'm pretty sure it opened a wormhole somewhere on the other side of the planet. lol
