D40 18-105mm vignetting

First time I've seen this. Over the weekend I took my D40 & 18-105mm to the beach.

The image below is as shot. Some of these have some vignetting in the corners. I have the OEM Nikon hood (pictures below)

f3.5
1/2500
ISO 200
18mm

Can you tell from this image if this appears to be caused by the hood or something else?
Yes, I believe my sensor needs cleaning...

Thanks.

Is this a new problem? Do you have the latest firmware for your camera or are they still updating this camera? Can't see the EXIF for the picture. What zoom did the problem show up.

Just added EXIF as I saw your reply. first time I've seen it is on a few of these images, it only showed up on the images at the beach shooting toward the water, I'm thinking it was the sun and the lens hood...

I just updated firmware from NikonUSA about 2 months back. I'll check that again.

What software are you using for post processing. I know Adobe Raw has lens correction.

I was out shooting all day with my new 18-105 and I have not noticed a problem with it.

That shot is right off the camera. I'm using Lightroom 4.4 and can crop it out. Is there a feature to 'remove' it without cropping?

This would be natural vignetting or falloff. It is not mechanical vignetting and it is normal for this lens. You aRe shooting wide open at 18mm.... This is natural on this lens. It will get better as you use smaller apertures.

As I continue to process the rest of these images, seems like when I was wide at 18mm and shooting toward the open sky, I see this. Lesson learned to remove the hood in similar situations :)

Has nothing to do with ur hood. Its natural falloff.

Really? Never noticed it. Maybe because it wasn't noticeable in wide shots until now, the blue sky really shows it.

I get this all the time with my 18-105. If you're using Lightroom fixing it is incredibly easy, just click on the "Enable Profile Correction" box towards the bottom of the right develop panel and "Voila!!". It will also remove some mild distortion on the wider settings of the lens as well - it's probably something else you've never noticed. :)

Thanks for that. I was playing with the lens correction settings as well with no real change in the corners. I'll give it a try.
