Re: Could someone give me samples please....

I only have the former so couldn't provide a comparitive set of sample images.

What is it you're looking for though?
Shots at the wider end at a set aperture, ISO & speed, or just 2 similar shots from both lenses?

Re: Could someone give me samples please....

Lovejoy,

I have both lens... I could a side by side shot comparison of each but not until the weekend, say same image, 4 focal length on each lens.... are you looking to see how the quality is at each point... or the difference between 200 and 300 only??

In the meantime... I posted some test shots here when I got my 55-300 in late November...

http://nikonites.com/project-365-daily-photos/8873-rockynhs-365-daily-pics-6.html (Outdoor Test post #60)

Let me know what you need and if no one else can provide it before the weekend, I can try.

Re: Could someone give me samples please....

I'm wondering for example what the difference would be of a shot of a bird sitting on a tree branch, I want to see how much closer it is, that kind of thing.

Or what would your moon have looked like with a 200mm put side by side with the 300mm

Lovejoy - try this: Nikon UK (Lens Simulator)

Not a proper real world test, but should certainly help a lot :)

Ok, well the samples I gave you previous show 55, 100, 200 and 300 so that should show the size gain from 200 to 300!!??

Let me know if that works for you or if you want me to shoot something else this weekend...

Doing the math, isn't the 55-200 in DX roughly the same as a 70-300 in FX? 55-200 x 1.5= 82-350. So, a 55-300 would equal a 82-450 in FX, right?

More or less, yea, but keep in mind that glass quality of 55-200 DX and say 70-300 is a whoooooole different level.
