Cold weather gloves

I'm from Texas and normally don't have to worry about cold weather photography but I'm working up in Colorado and will be all winter. What type of gloves would y'all recommend to use while taking pictures in cold weather? I would assume they would have to be thin but still be able to keep your hands warm. Thanks for your help.

From Texas as well and it gets cold enough for me, but I usually just keep those hot hands or some kind of hand warmers in my pockets. I usually shoot sports well into November, so dealing with the cold and taking pictures is not really that much fun. They do make some gloves that you might want to look at over on BHPhotography.

I use Under Armour hunting gloves that are thin and have a little grip texture.

#1 - Keep your torso warm and your hands will not need as much glove. Head covering is essential as most heat loss is through the head. Loose clothing so the body's natural heating/cooling system can work.

If you are actually planing to spend hours in temps below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, read up on winter camping, nutrition, hydration, etc. and your experience will be more enjoyable.

As a motorcycle rider who also liked taking pictures while riding... Eyelight has some great suggestions. The warmer your torso is, the better for your hands. When it's cold, the biggest threat to my hands comes from wind, so using a thinner glove that blocks more wind is better than a thicker glove that doesn't. A lot of times I'm also wear latex gloves underneath a then glove to add extra wind resistance, while still having tactile feel with my fingers.

ALSO a biker, and I'll second the great tip from @RocketCowboy. No matter what gloves you're wearing, put 'em on over a pair of the latex gloves (surgeon/sanitary style). So little added bulk, so MUCH added benefit!

I have fingerless gloves that I wear a LOT in wintertime (photography or not!) I found that if my hands were reasonably warm, my fingers worked OK

Never thought about the latex gloves for biking.. the times I rode and it took my hands ages to warm up... HATED that part of biking.

I had some gloves similar to these. I loved the fingerless glove part, but the mitten part kept getting caught on things. Lol :)
I think mine were a fishing or bicycling version, with some rubber on the palms for grip. But all in all handy gloves! :)

I have a pair of these : - Men's Thinsulate Fingerless Gloves/Shooter Mitts with Mitten Covers (Black): Amazon.co.uk: Clothing

I couldn't find them on the US Amazon site, but I'm sure something similar is available.

They are basically finger-less gloves, with a "Mitten" finger cover which can be flipped over your fingers when you are not shooting. They are very cheap, and warm!

The TV station I worked at before I retired kept the temp EXTREMELY cold in the rooms I worked in. Even in the summer we wore hoodies while we worked and generally had the hood on. We were operating computer and other electronic equipment so we wore fingerless gloves.

Sounds like where I work. summer time and winter time I sit at my computer with my jumper on. My fingerless gloves will be making a reappearance any day now :)
