Charging Z6III

Do I need the EH-7P or EH-8P, or can I use a USB charger that I use on phones and other USB devices? I'm wondering if the voltage is different, or if the Z6III requires more amperage.

Nikon documentation recommends EH-8P.

You are also recommended to use the USB-cable that is supplied with the camera. The charger and the battery are "talking" with each other on some wires in the cable, so it's essential that the cable has these wires. Not all of the cheaper cables in the local store has them. So even if the charger can supply the power, it doesn't mean it will work. Then try another cable.
It's a kind of dancing tango with three parts, charger - cable - battery.

I just got my Z6iii with 24-120 (Weee!) and after unboxing it, I inserted the battery. Dead! Insert my extra battery I purchased. Dead. No charger supplied, according to regulations from the European Union. We are supposed to use chargers we already have. Looked around for old (and new) chargers in drawers and 220 volt outlets in my apartment. The one I found had USB-A connector and despite that it could deliver 9V and 3A (27W) it didn't charge. After a while I found a charger with USB-C connector that I could borrow for a while.
Went down to the Phone House at the shopping mall and bought a charger and a longer cable USB-C <-> USB-C. Only 550 SEK (US$50). The supplied cable by Nikon is only 60 cm, the new one is 120cm.
So despite EU regulations, some 5 biljon new chargers will be sold due to new standards. Nice with a standard. Everyone has their own. I use my old USB-A-chargers for fast charging of my phone and my tablet, but it cannot charge a Nikon camera.

Why not buy a separate battery charger and a couple of extra batteries. Charging in camera is a pain, IMO. :)

I had a separate battery charger with my Z6 but I had to let it go when I sold it. But the way I have it now, I can also supply the camera with external power, especially when I'm doing a lot of macro and stacking. Everything has it's pros and cons.
