Did some research. Nikon USA does not honor a USA warranty out of country on digital cameras as stated in the last sentence here: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9677

Please note that the Nikon USA warranty we supply with our sport optics products (binoculars, fieldscopes, spotting scopes, etc.) is valid only in the USA. The same is true of the Nikon Digital Imaging Limited Warranty we supply with digital cameras and film scanners.

The Nikon USA warranty on film cameras, lenses, and speedlights will be honored by Nikon-authorized service centers outside the United States as long as you have the yellow copy of the Nikon USA warranty and your sales receipt from a dealer in the USA. The key to the validity of the warranty is a sales receipt from the country in which you purchased the equipment. If you purchase equipment in another country where the Nikon Worldwide Warranty applies, copies of the sales receipt and this warranty are necessary to obtain warranty service in the USA. Buying the equipment with a Nikon Worldwide Warranty in the United States is not recommended because that warranty is not valid in the USA without a sales receipt from an overseas dealer, and it is not valid outside the USA with a sales receipt from a dealer in the USA.

It's pretty clear to me. There are 2 different warrantees. One is Nikon USA, the other is Nikon Worldwide. If you purchase a nikon from a US dealer, and have a receipt, the Nikon USA warranty is in effect. And is serviced by nikon USA...

Nope. Read the end. What you're looking at is for film cameras, lenses, and accessories (as stated in the first sentence).

Sure, I understand. If I buy a Nikon camera in the USA and move to Canada, or W.Va... the warranty is based on where I am at the moment, and if I send the camera to Melville for service, they'll just throw the camera in the garbage because all warrantees are based on where the owner resides, rather than where the camera was purchased/serviced... Makes sense to me...Have a ggod day.

B&H has always been good to me. They have the red D3300 in stock, both with kit lens and as part of a larger kit. They ship to Australia.

Actually... If you try to "Calculate Shipping" on their website It cannot complete; as it states that this item cannot be shipped abroad.

I'm sure I read an email in another thread from a B&H employee that said the same thing - basically they have some agreement with Nikon to not supply what would be a grey item elsewhere.

Hmmm... must apply only to Nikon then. In their shipping policies, they state "We ship worldwide (except to Ukraine, Iran, Sudan, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, and Uganda)."

On the gray market aspect...whether or not that's an issue depends on the risk tolerance of the buyer. I typically won't buy gray market, especially on a body. I did, however buy a gray market lens a few years ago. I decided the $ saved was worth the risk based on my estimation that the chances of having problems with the lens in question would likely be very low, given it was a long-established, relatively uncomplicated design.

You're right, SD, just checked and it won't let you calculate shipping to Australia on Nikon items, but it does allow it for other brands. Oh well.

Will it let you calculate shipping on a Nikon lens? According to their warranty policy they will cover Nikon USA lenses internationally. Curious to know if they will send a lens or if they just don't won't do any Nikon at all internationally.

It gave the same "cannot ship to Australia due to manufacturer's restrictions" message when I tried to calculate shipping on a 24-70 lens. However, just out of curiosity, I selected a Nikon point and shoot camera and it did calculate shipping to Australia. So, the Nikon restriction only applies to some items.

Thank you all for the advice. I did check a US web site and before looking into the shipping aspect I found that on current exchange rates the price seemed much higher than Australia. I also originally ordered through a grey online supplier and (after a week) they told me they did not have it in stock, did not know how long it would take to get it and offered me my money back. The current online site is an authorised retailer located very close to Nikon Australia and they checked with NA before telling me delivery could be UP TO three weeks.
Something does not add up. If the camera was sent to someone who had been waiting longer you would expect that camera to actually be for that purchaser and my camera would still be in transit. However it is not in transit and is now expected to take more than another 3 weeks.
Your comments on manufacturing not being able to keep up with demand perhaps gave the best explanation...thanks. However a more accurate delivery estimate could have been expected from Nikon Australia.

In the event you aren't, a can of red spray paint is pretty inexpensive.;)
