You've got me wondering how these would work with a step-down filter ring? I think I could use them on anything from the 24-85 (72mm thread) to the 85mm 1.8g (67mm thread) to the 50mm (58mm thread). If I went for the largest ring would I experience focus and/or distortion issues on the other filter sizes?

if you get a 72mm set then you need step-up rings 67 - 72 58 - 72 rings are inexpensive.

Jake, I just tried this real quickly. I have the 52mm and 67mm macro filter sets. I tried the 10x 52mm filter on my 50mm lens. Then I added 4 stepper rings (about a 1/2" spacing) and tried the 10x 67mm macro filter. No change in quality and slightly greater magnification.

Thanks, Nick. That's what I figured. These seem to go for under $30 on Amazon, with some going for much less. Might need to pop some into my next order just to play around. Spring time is coming and the flowers will be budding.

I really like the first one, the detail on the wick is awesome. Photographing flames can be tricky but you pulled it off well.

I was curious too and peaked in the exif - Nikkor 28-80mm f3.3-5.6g AF lens. I'd never heard of it before. Nice, sharp little lens that seems to be rather inexpensive on eBay ($50-60).

One thing I'd like to mention about this lens is that it is SO LIGHT that you'll be very much tempted to keep it on as a walk around lens.

Thanks a lot and yes you are right it is hard to get the focus, not sure if its the hot gases there or what but it can be sharp as a tac then blurry in seconds without you moving a muscle. Saying that I never used a tripod so maybe that would have helped

I'm thinking of just permanently mounting one to my D90 and keeping it in the car.

Yeah it is a really light lens and would be great to leave on a camera, Its actually still on my D600 in the camera bag. Another good thing about this lens is it can focus close even without the close-up filters I used on it
