I'm in search of a camera case in the type of backpack style. I need to fit the following items:

  • D300
  • Nikkor 28-70mm f2.8
  • Nikkor 28-200mm f2.8
  • 3 prime lenses (24mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 55mm f2.8 macro)
  • Shoe mount speedlight
  • Nikon batteries
  • three or more memory cards
  • And other accessories and miscellaneous items
Any suggestion is much appreciated.

I have ths side sling and the more conventional backpack style Lowepro, been good packs, seem to hold up pretty well, would be could to buy at a store to make sure whatever model you buy can hold your longest lens.

I have switched to carrying less lens, and convential multi carpartment backpack with those extra pockets. I like putting the camera in one, the largest zoom in the other, and small primes in the smaller pockets. I just find this easier, then the standard camera pack with the split space for the lens, and the space for the camera, With a conventional backpack, I can carry other things too by having more room.

Me too. Great backpack. I like that you can swing it around and open it and change lenses without putting anything down.

Yes, this is a great feature. However, I also like to add that in the future, I like to add the Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8 lens too. Thus, I like to have a bag that has enough room to house this lens as well.

Okay, so I'm stuck between Pro Runner 450 AW vs. Vertex 200 AW? Which one holds more? Vertex 200 AW:

And Pro Runner 450 AW:
Material Exterior: 600 denier square rip-stop polyester

Interior: 210 denier nylon PU (polyurethane) Velex lining
Type of Closure Buckles and zippers
Exterior Dimensions 13.4 x 11.4 x 19.9" (34 x 29 x 50.5cm) (WxDxH)
Interior Dimensions 12.2 x 6.7 x 18.5" (31 x 17 x 47cm) (WxDxH)
Notebook compartment: 12.2 x 1.8 x 15.6" (31 x 4.5 x 39.5cm) (WxDxH)
Tripod Holder Yes
Waist Belt Yes
Accommodates Pro digital SLR camera with attached lens (up to 300mm f/2.8) plus 4-6 lenses or flash, accessories, laptop with a screen up to a 17", tripod or monopod and personal items
Carrying/Transport Options Handle
Backpack harness
Weight 6.0 lbs (2.7kg)

Based on this, I like the Pro Runner 450 AW because it's slightly bigger, but what is "1680 denier nylon and 420 denier nylon ripstop" means? Does this mean the Vertex 200 AW has better material?

This is really a personal choice which depends on what you're looking to carry and when.

I just purchased a Tamrac 3380 Aero, it looked like the best combination for a laptop plus camera and lenses. I also am looking to buy a bag just for the camera gear as I don't see me travelling all of the time with a laptop, but if work sends me on a trip, now I can take the laptop plus my camera.... looking forward to Brazil, Israel, Germany, China in the near future.

I shoot mostly indoors and if it's outdoor, it's not in the wilderness; however, I like to prepare for that too if the chance ever comes my way.

I'm a big fan of the LowePro slingshot series of bags. You are not required to remove the pack and set it down someplace to access your gear. Sounds like the Slingshot 302 AW can suit your needs?

I have the 100 AW I bought a few years ago, however my gear has grown a bit since then. Right now it is able to carry my D40 with 50mm, 18-55mm, 70-200mm and SB700 (in the top triangular pocket). It's pretty maxed out.

I have the 100aw slingshot and bought it before my gear grew and it unfortunately doesn't hold the 80-200 lens. It is good for everything else has great storage space and like said it just swings around for easy access. I am looking now at the lowe pro photo sport 200.

With camera cases I've found the no amount of reading can tell you whether or not they'll be comfortable on your back/shoulder. My best advice is to visit a store, if possible, that has the cases you're interested in and try them on. You would be surprised how different each one feels.
