Cable or reader?

Just wondering what everyone uses to transfer images from a digital camera (any) to their computer. Trying to decide if I should upgrade from a generic corded reader to a 3.5" empty bay to cut down on clutter, or run cables for two or three cameras from the back of my computer neatly and grab an extra set for vacation time.

Leaning toward the reader.

If you may end up using more than one computer, where each does NOT have a card reader, then the generic, corded card reader makes sense. I always like flexibility, if possible. Both my laptops each have a built in card reader. For me, that was a necessity.

I like the corded readers, mine does cf and sd. Make sure when you get one it is really well mechanically made, get a name brand good (don't buy cheap) reader. Very important to get a good one. It is the only way I download other than my vosonic which I use when traveling.

I use a corded card reader, for flexibility. One of Macs has a card reader built in (the newer one), the other doesn't (this one has Photoshop on it).

I love the corded reader. It sits on my desktop and is easy reach. I kind of need it since I have the D700 that uses CF cards and the D600 that uses SD cards.

I decided to grab a Kingston USB 3.0 desktop unit that has good reviews. I haven't seen an in-tower unit with great reviews to this point.

I just plug in the USB 3 cable directly into the D800 or USB 2 cable into the 700, and transfer right into the computer, don't bother with my reader.. plenty fast, and don't have to keep taking out the cards.

I guess, when my cards were 2G, 4G, or even 8G,, would fill them up,, and end up having to swap cards, then the card reader was convenient, but now with 128G in the camera,, never overflow anymore, heck can't even overflow the primary card anymore.

so,, I can see I am in the minority, but my vote is just plug in the camera.
