Hi live
Buying used is always a punt
I got a 35mm 1.8 used for £95 well chuffed
You take your chance maybe a good idea to look for sellers who take returns
not all do , so if your not happy spend it back
Good luck

Is it advisable to buy used lenses or camera bodies ($$$$) on ebay?

Thanks
Normally when I buy used or refurb stuff I get it from Adorama, or B&H or one of these reputable dealers.
Having said that I bought a 50mm-D lens from e-bay before without any problems. The seller did have over 10,000 positive reviews.

I buy used all the time on eBay... Many of what you might consider Internet/brickMortar camera dealers are on eBay as a secondary marketing distribution system...

I bought a used D300 from Robert's Camera thru their web site. It had a 1 year warranty. The switch acted flakey so I called them to make arrangements to send it to their repair folks. They didn't have a used D300 in stock that was the same condition as the one I'd bought earlier in the year... So they simply replaced it with a Nikon Factory Refurb'ed D300 for free...

If you do your due diligence, the same companies and service are available on eBay as any other camera dealers...

I think it's possible to find little gems here and there. I would stick with sellers that have HIGH ratings and take the time to post lots of pics of their wares. For me I'm very selective when purchasing glass on ebay. Mainly because glass holds so much value that often times it's better for me to buy new unless it's a lens that is no longer manufactured.
