Blown out faces. I Reduce the flash but then get a dim image. Any advice?

I don't know what flash unit(s) you have, but I use a Stofen Omnibounce on my SB-400 and my Yongnuo 468-II with great success. They're expensive for what they are (a piece of molded plastic) but still on the cheap end for a sturdy, effective diffuser. Amazon carries them.

Love my little SB-400. You'll love yours a lot more with an Omni Bounce. I know WayneF isn't partial to diffusers generally speaking but I find them very handy and very effective.
