Bird photography, D7200 AF settings advice needed.

I may have missed something somewhere along the line but I have never seen a mode that would do what you are trying to explain. And I have to agree with GracieAllen that this would defeat the purpose of BBF.

Well that is working like that. Maybe you just dont know how to set it up. The only issue is when you use bbf you have to keep the bbf button in then shutter button will not focus again. The idea is not to press bbf, let camera focus and then release the bbf and then press the shutter button to focus and take picture. Yes then it will defeat the purpose. However with birds i use continues mode focus so my finger is on the bbf all the time anyway as birds move all the time and shutter is only pressed when i want to take photo and as long as bbf button is held in the shutter button do not do focus again. New cameras are really smart

It also work in af-s mode: press bbf. Let camera focus but keep in the bbf button then when you press the shutter button it only take picture and dont refocus.

Now i can give camera to noob. He press shutter button, the camera focus via shutter button and take picture. Ahhh easy... Isnt it.

You not to old to learn new tricks. Want my settings so you can test yourself. It work a treat for me.

I just think it is stupid to set up a camera to only use bbf button or only shuter button to focus. You can have best of both worlds. Work like this in my d7200 and d800.

Thanks but I don't think it will do what I want ..go from af s (focus on the shutter relese) to af c at the press or hold of a button.
I only need to engage af c for say 20 seconds while the bride walks down the aisle .I don't want to be holding the af ON button every time I take a shot when in af s...

the only suggestion I have had is to use U1 and U2 but sadly not on the D810
