Regarding batteries, my experience is to stick with Nikon as other makes do not seem to have a long lifetime and when they fail to hold their charge it can happen quite quickly and leave you stuck. Just my experience, I might have just had bad luck though.
For cards, my most recent buy was a Sandisk Extreme (90MB/s) 64GB - it wasn't much more money to jump from 32GB to 64GB. The 90MB/S is about twice as fast as my camera can manage, but I read a test where it done well and it was cheap enough. I might just be particularly unlucky, but did have a store own brand cheap card fail on me.
