This actually is old news by now, but we are in the midst of a solar storm since Thursday. The forecasts are for another strong chance of aurora tonight (June 1) and possible the next night also. I have seen many photos come out of New Zealand and Australia from last night, and Thursday night from across Europe. Western Canada was very active last night. But I am seeing KP levels at 7 during the day right now. If that maintains 7 or even 6 for after sunset, expect to be able to photograph aurora in the USA. That is similar numbers to the May 10th 2024 event. Even if you cannot see with bare eyes, try test photos with a cellphone because you might be surprised how well you can photograph them.

I however am under some Canadian wildfire smoke blowing over the great lakes region. I may try anyhow.
