Attention Everyone

I like the idea of camera specific threads for newbies. Being able to look through the images, I think, gives encouragement to those starting out that they have the capable tool and just need the practice. For me it's kind of like the bad wrap kit lenses get. Are there better? Sure, but the problem for the majority of people is their lack of skill starting out and not the lens. Once again, seeing a great image produced by the same camera/lens they are holding gives them a boost of confidence.

It's similar to why I list my equipment in the signature area. Not because it matters, or to show off how much money I have spent, but too many to count have asked me about one piece of equipment or another because they saw it in my signature and it has helped them out. Side note, glad to see it seems more people are doing the same.

That's my thoughts anyway.

I know that seeing your wife's photos was the final kick in the pants to buy my D7100. Yours aren't to bad either.

well said Moab Man, I can say seeing images and asking questions about equipment has helped me out a bunch when deciding on my next purchase.

To me it's like looking at equipment and reading reviews except I get to converse with the owner. So knowing what someone uses is an asset to me.

it has been challenging keeping up with everyone but I feel that's because the site is growing. There have been a bunch of new users and return users that haven't posted in a while that are posting lately. This is good and nothing more than growing pains.

I try to post to my own thread but if I have a specific topic then I post there.

As as far as the gallery, I prefer the site hosting the galley as it speeds the image loads up substantially as compared to a link to the image being hosted on another site.

i personally just use the what's new link and go from there. It's not easy keeping up with all of the threads.

sometimes I just go to the gallery and view new images as well.

Isn't technical questions what fills most in the forum? Questions about lenses, camera model, how to xxx? Could anything be made more simple with this maybe? Just wondering.

Yeah I know you can go to last view post, but I dont have the time to follow 20 more very long threads - which would mean, I would miss a lot of stuff. Say, I wanna see all the weddings and portraits images posted here but I probably wont see them if they are on page 35 in someones thread.

Mai, if you click "New Posts" you should be able to pretty much keep current on all new threads posted here. I do this every day, sometimes twice a day, and it keeps me from getting too far behind. I don't read aevery single thread posted. I read the continuing threads that I am interested in and I am never more than a few posts behind the times so it is easy to keep up.

Same thing I do. when I get through all that I plan to read I click on the "Mark all threads as read" that clears all of them and lets me start fresh the next time I log in. I also have a short cut set to go to "New Posts' automatically when I go to the site.

Yeah, I don't do that, because I don't read every subscribed thread when I log on, then I will miss some if I mark forum as read. So afraid of missing something :p

Which images is it you want to be posted into some kind of daily thread....? I'm not sure if I would notice a smaller amount of new topics but when scrolling through 'new post', it will just be the technical ones that dominates. I know they are important, but I wanna see images.

That is the nice thing about clearing the list is that you don't have near as many to look through. you can generally look at all the posts and decide by the title/member if you want to look at it or not. Hover over the title and you can read a little of it without clicking on it. If you clear it once a day or when you have a chance to see all the listing then it becomes a much easier task. That is the only way I can keep up with all that I do each day. If I never marked as read then I would be so lost and overwhelmed. Doing it my way lets me keep up with the latest new thread. Less threads makes it easier to keep up with to. Especially it you click on the little black icon that lets you go to first unread post in the thread.

I think any thread which groups images is the point, bodies, lenses or otherwise. These all add to organization, some folks will follow and contribute to it regularly. If everyone started a new thread for each D5100 pic....,

Mai, Don is referring to people who, instead of making a running thread for their 365 project that they add too daily, instead make an entirely new thread each day. Not a new post reply but a new thread.

I've just looked through the new posts and I see a lot of long image threads with different subjects, some off topic, several specific questions about lens/technique and only very few single images.

Mike yes, but image feedback can't really change so were else to do it?

Well maybe I'm just not online enough too see the problem.
