I wonder what will come first 400 or 600. Whichever, you can bet you bottom dollar
they will be the same as they have always been. I expected the D700 replacement to be called the D800 lol
So i was a bit surprised when they anounced the D800 and it was obviously not the replacement.
It makes you wonder if the D300 is going to remain as D300... maybe D300x
That would actualy make sense when you think about it

The more rumors I read, the more I think they are actually intentionally leaked just to make our mind want them.

I think if I was going to open a restaurant, I'd just send great smell of food from the blacked out windows until there is actually a crowd out there banging on the doors to get in.

Do you guys realize this is what is happening?

As much as I applaud the recent developments into DSLRs, I personally don't need to upgrade (I know I will though). But if and when I do, it's because the model will be in the showcase of my photo store, I will not put my name on a list just to be the first one to get one. I already have 3 bodies, many lenses and I'm very happy with what I have. I just want more time to shoot. And if I want to get the latest, I'll have to spend more time working just to be able to afford the newest toy in town.

But this is me, and, to each it's own. We all have skeletons hidden somewhere.

i agree with you. This is a new kind of marketing. We're seeing a major consumer products corporation cleverly utilize social media to create a marketing frenzy. And, it's working. They're creating demand before the product even hits the market . . .

It's hardly new, Apple have seen some success with a similar strategy!

Yea, you're probably right. I forgot about Apple. But, I was also referring to the idea of intentional, so-called product leaks on Facebook and Nikon Rumors, but there was an episode where an iPhone prototype was left in a public place, by a so-called Apple employee. At the time, I took it to be a serious error, but what if it was just a marketing ploy by Apple? I recall it happening twice . . .

I disagree, at least for the Nikon USA PR anyway. I've personally talked a couple different Nikon PR people. The firm that handles Nikon PR is the same one that handles Samsung mobile. When you ask Samsung what new phones they will have in the next year, they give you a hint and sometimes show you the phone. If you ask Nikon what they have coming out they literally say 'no comment'. I'm sure it's a different strategy since Nikon doesn't release products nearly as often as Samsung does.

If Nikon Rumors isn't talking to Nikon and Nikon isn't leaking this information, where do you think it's coming from? What or who is the source?

I should've been more specific. I don't believe it's in Nikon's marketing plan to leak information. I think it just happens naturally (and they may account for that) with the number of people have to see plans, make parts, test prototypes, etc. Yeah, these people sign documents saying they won't say anything, but people do regardless. Right before a product is set to be announced they send production models to major news outlets. This is why Engadget was able to publish a review of the D3200 at 12:01 the day it announced. The literally come with a piece of paper saying 'do not publish until DATE'.

Trust me though, NR does not talk to Nikon directly.

Thanks. I assumed it was a Nikon leak. I know how difficult it is to get 100% employee loyalty and confidence. Plus, if someone offers money to an average wage-earning employee, they might just be open to the bribe. Lower and middle management are both a little bit more likely to not take a bribe.
