More incremental upgrades, which I'm sure will just serve to p-ss a lot of people off for reasons I've never quite understood. Nikon is playing the market, IMO, nothing more, nothing less.

Nice to see WiFi and GPS (and I'm assuming Geo-Tagging along with it) is now built in; as I think should have been done -- across the board -- a long time ago.

The OLPF has been removed which I bet will lead to *significantly* better image quality... My '7100 is the first Nikon of the three I've owned to not have an OLPF and I can say without hesitation *all* my lenses shoot better on my 7100 than any other DX-format Nikon I've shot. Significantly better. Maybe there's another explanation for it but I'd bet you dollars to donuts the lack of an OLPF is what makes the difference.

It is to my way of thinking, yes... There is a fairly vocal segment, though, that seem to think every new release must contain some earth shattering, revolutionary technology (preferably alien-based I can only assume) in order to warrant release. In reading some of the comments posted on other sites such remarks are rampant.

Gotcha. Good thing they are in the minority of usualy 'Keyboard Komplainers' :)

Nikon is getting smarter, IMO. They're taking a lesson from cell phone manufacturers and releasing products more frequently with small differences. That and the fact that the market demands new things at a faster rate, especially with photos and sharing them. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there saying, "my phone can geotag and upload photos on the fly, why can't my good $700 camera?"

I think Nikon is just teasing us, leading up to a big announcement in the new year. Nikon 42 MP Mirror-less ILC Full Frame anyone? :)

I have a strong feeling that this hysterical hyper productivity of "different" models is a sign of nervousness and a hesitation to make real advancements. Just take a look what Fuji has been done recently: they introduced the completely new (technologically new) sensor and built it in a few models (X100, X100s, XE, XM and XQ), mirrorless compacts and mirrorless system cameras. Each model brings certain differences which distinguish them one from another clearly, each having a low light performance (low noise) higher than any Nikon or Canon full frame DSLR!!! That is an ADVANCEMENT, not just adding a gimmick or two and call it a new model. Think about it.

The D5100 and the D7000 have the same sensor But the D7000 has different firmware and more options on how to process the RAW files. My D7000 produces much larger files and I can get more detail out of it although the sensor is the same. I would bet the D5300 and the D7100 are the same way.
