Anyone use the 1.4 TC?

I'm looking at trading in my Z5 and have thought about using the proceeds to get something useful. While I have two holes in my lenses, 70-200 and ultra wide, I really am not sure I would use either of them enough to justify spending the money. I have thought about a teleconverter. I've looked at a fair number of videos about it. Most say the 1.4 works very well with the 180-600, one or two say otherwise. I have doubts the 2.0 would suit me. The loss of 2 stops from F6.3 seems a bit too much, and likely would affect the AF performance more than I'd like. Going out to 840 with the 1.4 should be enough reach, especially since I'm working with a 46 MP sensor and can crop aggressively when needed. I also sometimes use my long lens for closeups of smaller critters that I need additional distance from than my 105 micro lens. The 1.4 would give me additional magnification.

Just wondering if anyone here has experience with it, and hopefully paired with the 180-600.

I use a 1.4x with my 300mm f/4 all the time for larger insects and similar shots. Getting the same close focusing distance with greater magnification is handy for those nervous subjects. I only use the 1.4 rarely with my 500 f/5.6 sine the resulting f/8 makes my D500 strain to get good focus. With your mirrorless set up, that shouldn't be an issue. Everyone I know with the 600 Z PF or the 180-600 has said they get great results with the 1.4 attached.

Thanks for the feedback, Woody. If I could use it on my 105 micro, it would be a done deal. Unfortunately, The rear element of the 105 is too close to the mount to clear the TC, and the extension tubes I have have a rectangular mask that likely would interfere with mounting.

Not sure how often I'd be willing to hassle with mounting the 1.4, but it would be nice to have the option of 840mm, as well as increased magnification at minimum focus.
