The penny is no more in Canada. However, it is still considered legal tender. The mint just isn't making them anymore. At the tills, prices will be rounded up or down to the nearest nickle. This only affects cash transactions. Credit card transactions are not affected by this change. $5.99 is still $5.99 on a credit card bill.
