Anyone tried Tokina 16-28mm 2.8 ATX PRO FX

I've been pondering this all morning. I am so on the fence, only because the new Nikon coming out only covers 1/2 the gap between my 24-85 and the 14-24. This photo is what has me most bothered...

Getting to 16mm gives me about 50% more coverage than at 18mm, and 14mm would be even better, but I could live without it at that cost. The 18 allows me to use filters, but the Tamron gives me reach and a nice fixed 2.8 for only $100 more.

Again, arrgh!! I may just roll the dice.

Thanks for posting! This helps put it all in perspective!

Hey guys, here's some really quick snapshots of the basement and I tried to put some items near the corners so you can check corner sharpness. I didn't have a tripod with me so I also put it on top of a box (which explains why it's not even, lol). For my uses, it's plenty sharp at 2.8, especially the center sharpness.

EDIT: Looks like it resized itself when I uploaded it, so here's another look at 3.0MP, 300 pixels/inch, 100% quality

Hope this helps!

Shot with the Tokina. I forgot the exif, but I'll put it in once I get home.

No distortion correction needed for this shot as well :)

DXO mark is a bit foolish not to include Nikon 14-24mm 2.8, but I think the Tokina's score is about right for its performance. (taken from Nikonrumors)

I was really interested in this lens since I just picked up a D3. I looked at the larger 100% jpegs and they just seem soft to me. I was hoping that it would produce a much sharper shot. I have used the 11-16 and loved it. I may have to rent one of these to really get a feel for it.
