Anyone Still Using Their D80

Before buying the D80, I did some research on it and found that it would be a great workhorse. In fact it served me a good six years before going to the mechanics for servicing. It did not cost very much and now the beauty is back in my hands. It's a must to have and worth keeping.

I was given a D80 in November '12 and am still getting used to it. My previous camera is a Fuji Finepix S2000HD which is so simple compared with the Nikon. As soon as Spring deigns to put in an appearance in the UK, I will get out and try lots more with the D80. In this unseasonally cold weather, it is all I can do to walk to the pub!

D80 was my first ever DSLR...bought it used in Japan....used it for 2 years and i simply love it..i learn many things with it...served me well until i decided to trade it for D7000.... kinda sad to let it go....
I have two of them and still use them even though I finally upgraded to a D-7000.I don't switch lenses much anymore,just grab the camera that has the lens on it that I want to use.I don't trade in,I have every camera I have owned,even my film stuff.I love my D-80's.only upgraded for some extra low light performance. I use it too besides my D5100
I've been using my D80 for several years and have been concerned about the shutter click-life. I'll probaly keep using the D80 until it expires and while I'm getting used to the D600. The D80 has served me well, but I'm really looking forward to learning all about the D600.

I've had my D80 for 4 years, was my first DSLR. I absolutely love this body! I just ordered a D5200 because I wanted some newer features and the articulating screen is a big bonus. I plan on keeping my D80 until she dies, which I dont think will happen anytime soon. If the D5200 fails to impress Im going to send it back for a D7000.

I came from a Minolta 5000i film camera to the Nikon D5100 from borrowing my son in laws D80 and have not looked back

I have been using Nikon D80 since I bought it in 2008 and it is my first ever DSLR. Before using Nikon D80 I was already familiar with film SLR. I was using film SLR Nikon F80 before so converting to DSLR of the same brand was not a steep learning curve to me although handling digital files especially RAW was something totally new to me back then.
After using it for 5 years I upgraded to Nikon D7100 last year. My D80 never failed me except once in early 2013 when the "Err" message came out and it couldn't take any picture. After sending it to Nikon Malaysia it was perfect again while the repair cost was just RM250.00 (approx US$ 75.00)

On Saturday I tried to use my D80 and oh my Buddha an Error message came up. Can't fix it. So I have now to look for an other backup camera. I don't know, maybe a D90 even a D80 Body was offered me yesterday for a price of 120 US$.

Yes Vixen. Of course there is a difference with D7100. Even the power lever switch of D7100 is much smoother whenever you turn it on or off compared with D80. But my D80 has helped me produce a lot of memorable photos as well as earn me some money to cover back its purchase
Zain, the D80 feels positively archaic compared to the D7100....but....the D80 was my first DSLR too and I still like using it. It's my back-up/second body
After having my old faithful D70 kit stolen, I decided that I could not do without a DSLR for very long.
So I searched ebay and waited for the right one to come along...
I now have a sub 5000 actuations D80 with a sharp little Nikkor 18-70 for only £160.
It handles just like my old 70 but has so much more going for it, I am very happy with it indeed!

What can I say? I never actually stopped using my D80, even after buying a D7000. I owned 2 D80 bodies, bought the 2nd used with kit of accessories because the original I bought in 2007 had been cosmetically beaten-up on hiking trails. A D80 was always my backup camera body. As recently as 2017 for the eclipse, I pressed both D80's into service.
When I bought my D750 early in 2019, I traded off several redundant accessories and the cleaner of the 2 D80 bodies. But I kept that original body with the cosmetic damage. This year I shipped it off for a conversion to dedicated infrared use. I'm using the camera nearly as much as the new D750 now.
