Anyone own a Colormonki or iDisplay pro?

I've decided it's time to end my attempts at calibration. My prints are very close for some colors but others need a little help so I've narrowed it down to the xRite colormonki or iDisplay pro instead of the Sypder. Does anyone on the board use an Xrite product?

One of the reasons that I've held off so long is that you use it once and you're good for months. In a perfect world, several people would get together and share the cost of this device and then do the "round-robin" between each other....nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

OK Dave I hold you responsible for my foray into DNG which has made me realize how crucial proper calibration is but I can only digest so many things in one day...LOL

Dave, I use the Colormunki from X-Rite. It is very easy to use, quick and gives very good results on my rMBP. In the past I have used a Spyder2, but this is way better and easier to use.

It is however worth to note that to do it perfect, you need not just calibrate your display but also your printer. More expensive calibrator tools can do both. Personally, I didn't bother because 1) I don't print as much and 2) in my experience if the display is properly calibrated, print will be close enough for me.

I bought the iDisplay Pro last week when Amazon had a deal that took $40 off the current price. I have 2 displays for my desktop plus a laptop which helped justify the price. I also expect to upgrade the desktop next year so I'll be using it again. The iDisplay Pro can also adjust for ambient light so I can create profiles for different rooms at different times for the laptop if choose. So far, I'm pleased with the software and the device.

Good info, thanks! I was again ruminating on a Colormunki this morning. I calibrated my monitor about 9 months ago with a friends Spyder and for awhile it was spot on with my prints but that's changed over the last couple months. Unfortunately my friend with the Spyder is now overseas so I guess it's time to just get the darn thing and be done with it.

I considered the iDisplay because of the ambient light but I think that's the only difference between these two, right? I'm guessing you do your own printing, if so, how close are the prints compared to your monitor? Also, what printer are you using? I've an Epson 2000R and love it. You know, I've been attending the X-rite seminars on-line and they keep sending me a coupon for the iDisplay and the color matrix but not the munki (figures, huh?).

The Colormunki also does ambient light. The biggest difference between the two is that the I1 can also be used with other software, like NEC and Eizo monitor software. The Colormunki can only be used with the X-Rite software, which works fine for me.

The software will (if you want it to) generate a reminder of when it is time to recalibrate the screen. This will be a lot quicker than 9 months. :)
