This afternoon my chiropractor told me he heard there are homes that run along some of the holes and that the residents were charging people if they wanted to stand in their yards. He also told me some residents (not only at this tournament) offer their homes for rent to the golfers and that not only do the residents get paid rent for the week, the golfers go in early and have some remodeling done (one home supposedly had a pool installed while others get new appliances or have room makeovers). Anyone ever hear of this being done before? I don't know where he heard this but said he heard it just today.

This is all true. Tiger apparently gets furniture replaced. I know of some people that rented their house for the week (not to players), and they got anywhere from $4 - 8k depending on the size of the house and who rented it. Others near the course are charging for parking in their driveways, selling water, etc. People really close to the course have to be escorted out of their homes. Some of the mansions have tents right on the front lawn, and they are compensated nicely.

All this stuff happened back in 2003 when it was at Baltusrol. They talk about events like this being an economic boon to the community and that's just part of it.

Did they allow you to bring your DSLR in, John, or are you using a PnS?

You can't even bring in cell phones. I stuck my DSLR w/ 55-300 over the fence on the one spot on the course that isn't private property.
