I tried it in my D7XXX days,liked it but couldnt find a way to keep focus priority on my shutter button so gave up,decided to have another go on my D500 as i read somewhere you can keep FP on your shutter button.
The AF-ON button is the easiest for me to get to while shooting and @Blacktop said he assigned one of the multi-focus point choices to it,i tend to use single point for acurate focus acquisition with BIF and now i can change to multi-focus point during the track very easily.
