Any opinions on Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 vs 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ED?

And a day later I am the new owner of a used AF-S VR Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G. The older version from 2010. It still focused a bit more confidently than the new Tamron G2 that had the $100 instant rebate, and was still $500 less.

If it's the one with the VRii, that's the one I have. I used mine a lot when I took drama photos from up in a balcony - plus I used it during Worship to photograph some of the services. It's a great lens plus it pairs nicely with the Nikon 1.4x TC for added reach. Enjoy it!

Cindy, it really is the series 1 that preceded. But the price was very right at $700. KEH is selling used Series VRII at over $1000 at this point. But I do understand the VR is better on later lenses, and image quality is a bit nicer on series VRII.

For my specific situation, I am filling a niche between my Nikon 24-120mm f/4 and a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3C. The fit feels right.
