I agree the illuminated foreground is nice i think that it grounds the picture by giving some point of reference in the pic otherwise astrophotos just look like lint on black paper to someone that doesn't know what they are looking at.again congrats to you all for the photos. If you don't mine i would like to use them as wallpaper for my desktop.

I don't have any problem with you using mine as your desktop wallpaper. Thanks for the comments guys. I guess the foreground lighting is starting to grow on me a little now. I'll have to admit this wasn't an easy shot to pull off especially since it was my first time trying to shoot in low light conditions and the first location is was at had way too much surrounding light that it completely blew out the shot. I have to give credit to Moab Man as I started off w/ the settings he used and worked from there. The version below is the same shot that I adjusted saturation a little, I'm not crazy about the moon having a little bluish tint but I really like the sky in this one.

I'm an air traffic controller and was riding in the flight deck on my way home from Denver last night. The co-pilot has a D700 and loves astro-photography so he pointed it out as we were around 36,000ft. It was super cool to see it from up there!

Love the blue moon, you should have said it was intentional.
Comets are rare, you could say "Once in a blue moon".

Viewing west, with the moon at 10 and Orion at 9:30, where about would it be in relation to horizon? ( example - 12 up 25 degrees from horizon.)

I live on the west coast of Canada.

Thanks for any help.

I'll wait till November to get a pic of ISON, really looking forward to it but looking forward to a decent summer first.

I did try to get Panstarr but even though the moon was in full view, Panstarr annoyingly was behind a cloud layer. Ten minutes later the moon was hazy as the clouds were giving more cover.

Had a great app on the mobile to find it and took a few shots anyway but no luck.
Other days have been worse with blanket cloud cover.

I really need to slow down when I read sometimes. Or maybe my mind was just in the gutter at that moment in time. The first time I read this I thought it was about pictures of a pornstar named Comet!

The back end of it will be the journey back around the sun, and unfortunately the tail is not nearly as visible - not that it was extremely visible before.
