Another myth to debunk about Canada

There is no gun culture in Canada, people don't own guns in Canada, there are not a lot of guns in Canada.... and the list goes on. These are all myths of course. But, that is what a lot of people south of the border and in the rest of the world think.
Here is a story that will change your mind about us: For 20 hours, an armed man holed himself up in his house and faced-off with Police. All this occurred 2 minutes away from me. The standoff ended when the SQ ripped the front door off of his house and the SWAT team went in and shot him with a rubber bullet/projectile.
Pretty straight forward operation and certainly not the first time it has happened around here. What was found inside the house, was a bit of a shocker.
The man had 182.... yes, one hundred eighty two firearms!! Police say it is unclear exactly how many firearms were inside the house at the time of the standoff.

Apparently he is a gun collector. It just amazes me what we find out about our neighbours. Out west, they have had "turn your guns in for blank" and it is very surprising what people turn in: grenades, land mines, rocket launchers.... yikes!!! Again, you just never know about your neighbours, lol.

I'm really not sure what this news story would suggest about either culture. He apparently was a collector, but he's also had some prior run in's with the law. It appears to be an isolated case.

I am Canadian/British. This has nothing to do about US culture VS Canadian culture. It was nothing but a way to bring out a mis-perception of Canada that many people have. Notice I said "many" and not "everyone". I understand Alan's comment, but he is but one person out of nearly 400 million in the US and billions in the world. I can't see how anyone could get offended by the original post.

Must admit when i think of country's of the world i always have something unpleasant pop into my mind about all of them, Canada never, i just think a large peaceful country with great scenery,in fact ime going to ignore your link and keep my head buried in the sand and dream of being there.

Exactly, everyone has different opinions and different perceptions. People perceive countries in the world in different ways. Only will they know the truth by going there or by having someone tell them that their perception is wrong.

I have to disagree with the notion that Canada has the same gun culture as the US. Yes, there are problems here, but we do not have the same "right to bear arms" mentality as the US. Everyone here is not driving around with a firearm in their glove box.

Nothing offensive to me. I thought it interesting and a bit surprising. I knew to some degree you could own firearms in Canada but had not heard about this story... then again I am not living by the border any longer.
