Ok. I am going to give you a different opinion. I think the photo works much better as a B&W shot. I will say upfront that I have a distain for HDR. With that said, the color photo works well but I feel like the amount of blue really draws me away from the subject, that being the barn. I love the logs and the barn, just don't care for the sky.
The B&W photo I really enjoy and would love to see how it looks without your girlfriend in the photo and a touch more contrast.
On the B&W I would lighten up the shadows on the left of the photo in an attempt to show detail like you get on the right of the photo.
