Again, Spots-o-rama

I thought Nikon was replacing all shutter assemblies on D600 due to the problems people are seeing. I'm more than surprised yours got just a cleaning.

You might want to look into Nikon's service advisory on the D600 shutter replacement.

I've had 2 shutter replacements already. I received an email from them saying there wasn't a dust issue but they cleaned it anyway. That's a lie because I had to prove my debris issues before the would send me a mailing label.
In my opinion they can replace shutters till the cows come home but the issue won't be resolved because they're replacing it with the same shutter mechanism that's causing the issue in the first place.

see, its not ur problem whether its shutter, oil tank or compressor.......the sensor or first filter is getting "unusually" spotty. They have sold u a lemon product which has failed thrice in one year, now they have to exchange or issue a refund. search lemon law in ur state before u call them next time. Do no get taken!

Nikon has horrible customer service, which if not changed, will drive away many customers.

Thank you everyone for your helpful advise. Keep it coming please.
I tried to research lemon laws in the State of Washington, but all I could find was info on Automobile lemon laws. I'll keep searching. I definitely have a lemon that's for sure.

I'd say send it in, again, now that they've publicly announced that they'd service ALL non-gray market D600s regardless of warranty for free.

I really want a refund or a D610 replacement. It's true that they will continue to service it for free, but they have it more than me. Kinda hard to get that "money shot" without a camera.

i thought the service advisory says they will replace the shutter once even if its outside warranty, not every time. the email i received clearly said that since the shutter has already been replaced, its not for my camera.

Interesting. By the way, is there any good way to check whether it's been replaced already or not aside from registering and waiting for them to say something? Else, what if yours has been replaced, but you still get oil spots?

That's my problem. Mine was replaced twice. One time out with the camera and it was loaded with spots and oil again. yeah they'll keep cleaning it for me, but so what. I'm without my camera for 10 days at a time for every shoot.

Got my camera back from its 3rd visit to the Nikon repair center and once again, first time out with it and I'm full of spots again. I didn't change lenses so I know it's an internal thing. Some of the spots came off with a rocket blower, others didn't. They never acknowledged the letter requesting a refund or replacement I sent off with the last repair, and I held for over an hour on the phone waiting to speak to a manager only to be told they would need to call me back, but of course never did. What should I do now? Deal with 10- 50 spots every time I use my camera and do daily sensor cleaning? I'm so frustrated!

I'd try to send it back again, because if it's a true lemon they might just choose to refund you.

Or clean once and see how that goes.

its a lemon, call them again and this time just ask for refund. don't even let them talk to you about having it cleaned again!
remember the "lemon law".

Yeah, I want a refund, the problem is I can only get that from a "manager" and It's impossible to speak to one. I'm thinking of having my boyfriend call for me. I'm interested to see if that makes a difference. Hate to say that but sometimes it's true.

Oh, one more thing. I can't find any information about lemon laws pertaining to anything except automobiles. I live in Washington State. I know every state is different.
On another note; I spoke to someone at B & H where I bought my camera to see how much they would give me for a trade in the they flat out said they're not taking any D600's. Hmmmmmm.

Somewhere on the forum I wrote the name of the lemon law that applies to the state of New York (where Nikon has a headquarters) as well as to electronics in that state. There is one, but offhand I can't think of its name.

The manager is usually there. Do not let go, you have to give them a hard time before they will connect you to the manager. I felt bad when I did because it was not the reps fault they are just trained like that. Nikon has horrible CS. If you search Lemon law for electronics you will find it. Also report it to better business bureau, they are there for issues like this. It's very easy and simple to file a complaint with them.

Thanks Hark

You are quite welcome. Good luck--the issue CAN be resolved as I am one of a few here who went through the process and was resolved to my satisfaction. It took time...and patience. I found being professional and not losing my cool really helped. Plus I developed a whole new appreciation for my D90 which has been and still is a stellar camera!
