One of the best lenses out there... but not sure about a wedding. You'll have to be pretty close to get some tight shots.. Primes are awesome, but kinda hard for events sometimes. I like it for controlled shots.

I think you will be fine as you said you are capturing the moments and the 50mm will give you a natural look and should allow you enough width. It will perform great in low light aswell. I have a wedding in a few days and at the reception I am thinking I will have the 16-35 on one camera and the 50mm 1.4 on the other, will be interesting which one I use the most.

the 50 will be fine. i once also was at a wedding using a similar focal length and for spur of the moment shots it was fine.
