LOL!

70 x 10 = 70. <--- That's exactly what I did. <Facepalm>

Ya'd never know I got straight A's in math, huh?

Anyway... I was about 3 feet away. Give or take 30 feet with the kind of math I do.

Took some photos of the Yardbirds to see if I could see any difference. I can't. HA

I recently spent ages chasing the fine tune using this method on my D800 with a variety of lenses. In the end I bought the Focal software ( http://www.reikan.co.uk/focal/mbp45/ ). I found the ruler / printed ruler method to be rather subjective. The Focal software is purely objective. It was £45 which is not cheap but it's made me happy with a £2000 camera body and a lot of lenses, so on balance I'm happy.

If you do the ruler method don't use live view to compose and focus as it uses a different AF method. I made this mistake on the first 250 tests :)

The other thing I learned is things will change at different apertures (not just DOF) and distance to subject. It drove me nuts!!

Yeah, they're dialed in. Go out and shoot some more. :)

Well... I would, but the wife will be home in a few hours. It's just been me and my son for the last ten days. Which means there's a few, ahem... Things I need to do to the house right now before she walks in the door. Lol
