Thanks for that link Geoff.
So it seems there are 2 different 70-300 VR lenses, the newer and better being the VR11. Which one does your wife have ?

I don't know if there are two versions of the VR lens, however my wife has the original. I assume yours wasn't a VR or I've been completely confused.

I'm supposed to get my D90 later today in the mail, and my 70-300 isn't getting here until 06-Nov-2012 (my youngest son's 22nd b-day) I'd seriously consider the D-90 as it seems to come out on top in most head to head comparisons. While the D300 is a nice camera, the D90 is a year and 1/2 newer which in the camera world is a whole lifetime+.

D90 vs. D300 Snapshot;

That made me smile. I have a 300s and my wife a 300. I took a brand new 7000 back to the shop and UPGRADED at £200 cost to me for the 300s last year. I didn't like the the 7000 once I started using at and had made the mistake of comparing data sheets. As I had already used a 300 a lot I immediately knew the 7000 was wrong for me. If you had the chance to use both cameras you would appreciate that one is a professional grade tool and the other isn't aimed at the same audience.

That said, I have no doubt that the D90 is a great camera, it's just not a comparison that you can perform using snapsort. If you did that you would swap a D7000 for a D3200 and call it an upgrade!!

For the purposes of this statement I regard the 300 and 300s as the same unless you want a video camera.

No, I think its probably me thats confused Geoff. My lens is a "D" , it has no VR .

I thought I had read where there was the original VR, and just recently there was a VR11 came out, but I might be thinking of a different lens altogether. :confused:

Thanks for that link Geoff, I hadn't read that review yet.
I think I read Thom Hogan's review, and he mentioned the lens was VR11, so I probably just assumed it was updated from an original VR model. My mistake.
