Advice... Beginner & lost.

Claudia - as far as warranties go - you ought to look into SquareTrade (SquareTrade Warranties | Extended Warranties for 70% Less Than Retail | Electronics Insurance Alternative) as a third party / extended warranty provider. You can get a warranty price instantly on their website. It has always been significantly cheaper for me (compared to the in-store offers) and they also offer "ADH" coverage. ADH is "Accidental Damage from Handling" and is NOT offered in the stores. Drop it - it's covered. Submerged it - it's covered. Basically, don't lose it or let it be stolen and you're all set.

Sorry I have not been on. I just got back to work. Thank you everyone for your advice. I finally 1000% decided to go with the d7000. I hope I can find it within the next week, maybe even this weekend. I understand that certain stores are out of stock. So far best buy has a few here and there. Luckily I live in Houston, which means I have tons of Best buys to search. I have been searching their website often. They have package deals right now. I don't know which package to choose just yet. I hope ya'll can help me out once again since you all were such great help from the start. I added the link to the best buy store. You can see their packages for the d7000. I still don't know much about lens but I feel like they are offering good packages so I plan to purchase the kit w/an extra lens. Please let me know which lens you recommend. I don't plan to spend more than $2000-2200 tops with warranty (+ $220.00) I would prefer to stay under $2000 including the warranty. I am looking for a good zoom lens in the mean time. I am also interested in a glass lens. Do ya'll know of any good ones? Thanks. The link for the best buy packages are below.

Nikon D7000|Nikon|Package Deals : Digital SLR Cameras - BestBuy

See the second one from the top? That's the best deal there. Know why it's back ordered? Because it's the best deal there! :)

In the meantime, check out this website: The Camera Store | Get the Picture! They ship all over the world. However, if you're in the U.S., it won't be warranted. B&H is a good place, as is Adorama. Go to DPreview com for more info on what you're interested in. There's no lack of info on the web about Nikons. :) Hope this helps in some small way.

I just wanted to come back and let everyone know that I actually did purchase the d7000 on nov 19th. I've been away from life as we know it since then. I've been working hard on getting to know the camera and how to use it. I have been reading the manual and taking it everywhere with me. I refer to it at any given moment. I don't care if people judge me, it's worth it. lol. Thank you everyone for your advice. I am really comfortable with the camera. As mentioned, I am a beginner but I still added a photo of my NYC vacation that I loved from rockefeller center.

Very nice shot Claudia - I've been reading my D7000 manual for a few weeks too - so you aren't the only "geek" out there !!!!
There's a lot to learn, I've been away from photography for about ten years - so I've got a lot of catching up to do !!!
I was at Rockefeller Centre for Christmas dinner - we probably walked right past each other !!!!
"Happy New Year" and "happy snapping" from all the way "down under"
cheers

thank you everyone. it was really nice to get to know it. My cousin does a lot of photography and research. I picked his brain throughout the whole trip. He was able to break down everything I read in the manual. It helped a lot.

Oldsalt, we probably did. It was an amazing site wasn't it? I just kept snapping. I kept having "err" messages but once I updated the camera, I haven't had it. It was annoying throughout the trip because I felt at any given moment, my camera or SD cards would crash completely.

So far, I am having tons of fun! : )
