Adobe Lightroom 4

I recently upgraded my computer and camera, I bought the new Lightroom 4, I uploaded and all is good. One day I must of changed something, when I upload my photos they are all imported normal, but then they automatically change to over exposed. I shoot with a D5100, I was looking in Lightroom at the toolbar, maybe I changed something while browsing? I did check the import settings on my computer and it all seemed fine. I did uninstall Lightroom, thinking that if I uninstalled then reinstalled that it would go back to normal, which didn't happen, it's still overexposing my imports. Both j-peg and raw images. Has this happened to you?? Can anyone help me?
thank you.

Have you checked that you haven't selected an import preset? You can add a preset in the library module to all the photos as you import them

I would also recommend getting yourself a book if you are new to post processing. I had never touched any processing software until I bought LR4 just before Christmas last year and I got Scott Kelby's book. Adobe also does one which is very good but I like Scott Kelby so that was my choice

What Lee said - you probably have applied some setting during import, thus increasing exposure.

Another reason why maybe (i've done this)-
you may have selected all photos for some reason & then decided you wanted to increase the exposure on one of them.
but you may have not realized that all pics are selected, thus increasing the exposure on all.

I am not sure that these settings would've applied to RAW files unless you import them cos all changes in LR are non-destructive.
Unless there is something else wrong, you can 'select all' the pics & then simply click on 'reset' in the develop settings.
(bottom right corner)
all your pics will go back to how they were..

Thank for the info from both of you, I myself am new and don't process my photos unless I'm changing the lighting for a different effect. I will be getting a book on black and white as that is my favorite. I have selected the photos and clicking reset and nothing happens.

Look at one of them in the develop module and see of any of the sliders are in anything but the default position. If they are then you should be able to reset them. If they are in the zeroed positions then something else is askew.

Thank you for your comment, I did what you just said, they are changing in the film strip as they load Up. I'm thinking it must be a preset upon import I must of changed, somehow, I have never had an issue before. I just have to figure out how to change it back to normal. When I import the pictures from my camera to my external hard drive they are normal, just in lightroom they are changing.

That makes sense because the settings you have inadvertently bumped/applied were done in LR and have nothing to do with your camera or your computer at all. At least you have a starting point now. If it were me, (courtesy of lack of patience in wanting to find the problem) I'd google some starting out with LR tutorial videos. Most of the decent ones will start by covering the import process and various options and you should be in a better position to spot the issue from there. Let us know when you find it :)

On the import dialogue there's an "Apply During Import" panel with a "Develop Settings" drop down along with the Metadata menu where you can apply copyright information. Perhaps something got accidentally set there? Change it to "None" and you should be good.

Ok, (sigh) that's not it, nothing is checked off besides the word " none", during import. That's what it said online, I will have to dig some more, to see if I can find the answer.
Thank you all for your replies, if and when I find the answer I will let you know.if there is anything else I should try, let me know.

OK, one more. In Gallery View, in the right panel, under Quick Develop, is there anything besides Default Settings for Saved Preset or As Shot for White Balance?

The as shot does nothing to the picture, I am seeing now that the exposure is + 60, so once I change it back to 0.00 it looks normal. Is there a way to change them all like that at once instead of all individually?

Import presets will become your best friend. Over time you will probably want to change sharpness, enhance the color a little... Etc. RAW comes without enhancements you see in JPGs... So you will want to add them back in to your taste. You just figured out how to do it by mistake. Lightroom is a fantastic program, I'm sure you will love it a year from now. JD
