Anyone looking for the brushes used can find them (and thousands of others) here: https://www.brusheezy.com
You may be just the person to ask this of,, !
Is there a brush , or name of brushes , which orients or pivots the bristles in the direction of travel ... so say , a brush of three dots when moved-drawn in a circle , would make three concentric circles rather than collapse as a calligraphic brush does? or brushes that can be oriented to multiple directions?
( for example, the swirl just up and left of the cigarette ash , collapses at about the seven o'clock and the one o'clock orientations of the swirl . and it would be most helpful , if it did not , making it more similar to a brush stroke than a highlighter. )

I assume you mean something like this?

Edit: I looked into it and learned something new. Apparently it is possible to make all brushes behave like this. There's a brush menu in AP where I can define the exact behavior and to what it responds. I assume the same goes for brushes in PS.

The brushes I used in the two smokes are more "composite" brushes. They work well with inverted layer masks and give you a whole element each time you click. They're not that great to actively paint with.

I don't know about LR or Elements but in PS/AP, if needed, you are also able to create your own brushes. If you want a three dotted brush, you create an image with three dots and load that as a new image brush. That way, if you want something specific, you can quickly create it.
