A B&W Guitar

Attached is one of the few experiments I have done with B&W. I was shooting this guy playing the guitar and thought this would make an interesting shot. I turned the shot B&W and then brushed it away over the fingers. (Done in Aperture 3). Your C&C please.

The subject and composition are really cool. Usually I think selective color has its place and can add something special to a B&W image. Here, it just seems out of place. Even if both hands were color, I still think the image would look better strictly as a B&W.

Attached is the original B&W. Actually this is a B&W converted from a color shot. Which one do you like best? I seldom do anything in B&W and have a strong preference for color. Of course I prefer the one with the fingers in color. It's not a matter of likes or dislikes it's more a matter of preferences.

*cough* Anthony, I hope I didn't bite down too hard as you were pulling the words right out of my mouth - ;)

It's another nice way of demonstrating how breaking rules sometimes works (the inverse rule of focal length vs. shutter speed). It makes a much better black and white. My only other suggestion is that you brighten/darken either the hands or the guitar, to focus the eye on what you're emphasizing.
