$9.99 Photoshop CC open to everyone

So, is Photoshop CC the same as owning/buying Photoshop directly, just at a bite-sized continuing price?

Yes and no. The CC membership comes with the newest version of Photoshop and also Lightroom, 25 gig of cloud storage and a pro Behance membership. In addition, you'll get all the updates that owners of CS6 will no longer receive. I jumped on this offer a few months ago because my Zenfolio account worked out to the same cost a year as the CC deal, so it was pretty much a no-brainer.

Dave,

In reading the terms... it appears it is a one year promotional deal and it indicates after a year, you will be billed the current going rate... do we know what that rate will be??

Yes, it will renew at the current price of the "offering" which is currently $9.99. I would assume they'll continue with this offer price for a good few years before they change it but Scott Kelby claims Adobe told him they'd keep it at $9.99 for a very long time (I think he said Adobe would keep it at this price forever, but I think he might have been exaggerating).

Not paying anything to adobe for a temp software solution. Id rather buy it and then when the need comes to upgrade sell it and get part of investment back. im on CS4 and happy with that. although lately ive been using nikon capture more so and acdsee even more than both. picasa is just garbage. lightroom...meh.

abobe are evil. the fact that they dont say what the price after a year will be shows they are not honest and transparent. I dont trust them for a millisecond. I dont want have a subscription and guess what my fee will be. let me buy it and decide what I want. there was a reason why they were hacked. they even pirated the CC software within a day after launch. CC made a lot of people unhappy. I dont see their next quarterly revenue being anything but a bear.

It interesting that I received a survey from Adobe, no doubt like a lot of other people, regarding various rate combinations. Sounds like people weren't to happy.

Thanks Dave

Take a look at Adobe's stock, it's been going straight up due to rapidly increasing revenues based a great deal on better than expected subscription numbers for CC. So I wouldn't suggest shorting their stock anytime soon.

we will have this conversation when the quarterly stats are out. I think their CC solution took the opposite effect they wanted. anything new will create a buz. it wont hold though. I know many people torrented their software. im still with cs4 and happy, although over time I find myself going to Ncapture and acdsee more and more. its just too slow for mass editing. LR sucks a** imo. the day they program their software to take advantage of my powerful GPU, itll be the day I upgrade. cant believe they still havent implemented that feature yet.

I'm going to try to get this before the deadline, and get the computer up and running. But I admit I find a lot of this confusing, but I guess I better try to get use to it while the deal is being offered.

As a relative beginner.... and Hobbyist, I have not learned PS ... I have been using LR5 and for my use and needs I do see it as bad as you do ... but then that is only my opinion... I use it everyday and find it quick and easy for my basic edits.. Learning a bit (slowly) about layers with Elements and enjoying that .. (though it is not PS)

Bill, I thought of the same thing... but at this point I may pass... (may be a mistake). I use LR and do most of my normal edits with it... It would be nice to learn and use PS but I know that for me, that is a timing issue and I surely will not have time until I retire in a year, then fixed income may not want a monthly fee. Being a NEWBIE, the biggest thing I missed from PS was layers, healing with content aware and the clone stamp.. I recently was blessed with a copy (legal) of PS Elements 11 and that does all those and more... I have not learned all there is in LR and Elements... so I may just stay staus quo...

It is a good offer... and I seriously was considering what you were thinking... wish you luck and I amy regret my descision... but then maybe they will offer again next year!!! :)

PS is fine for slow, meticulous work of a photo. you can do everyhting you need one pic at a time, but its a slow process. the other problem is that you cant see the other pictures to compare to and I found myself editing one photo and then other photos (in that series) werent edited properly in terms of exposure/color. with LR or acdsee, you can see thumbnails that can give you a better indication instead of looking at one and remembering it to try to set them up the same.

I recently taught a PS Elements class based on 11 but had a few that had version 8. When we got masks two hand were raised "No Mask's" tried a work around but to no avail. I believe in masks and not erasing a pixel. Well I did search found a site that had a plugin hack to create a mask. Sent then the instructions and they were able to do it and be ready. Why I brought this up is that they (insert any manufacture) wants you to buy the latest and greatest. Now many of you have cable? My self I got off that merry go round years ago an erected an antenna and rotator. Since I am in close proximity to Canada I can get a lot of free TV. Has your cable bill remain the same? Most anything you can do with "old" PS or PSE will still work and it on your computer.
Now there are others out there that make decent RAW converters and even PS/PSE similar software and if they have any entrepreneurship you may see these companies pick up where Adobe, MSOffice wants you to RENT.
SO if you think the 9.99 will be around for years...well look at your cable bill it never went down. I remember LP Vinyl and the CD replacement and they said the price would come down. Did it? No way, thats why you can find musicians that will sell you CD's by passing the "inflators".

Just my 2¢

I'm going to have to pass on this deal. It seems that the computer that I have here needs too much work to use for awhile at least. So I'll have to continue using my Xoom for post processing my photos. It limits me a lot, but it will have to do for now. :(

Went ahead and signed up for the deal. Figured just the opportunity to leagally learn with PS for at least a year was worth it. I might mess around with the website a bit, too... never know.

The offer has been extended to December 8, 2013 for those that are interested.

WARNING. if you are interested in this offer because of the Behance Pro site like I was you might want to know how they handle the Right Click Save.

Before you weigh in I know not everyone cares about this but I do and I know a number of you do too.

From their site.

[h=3]Why doesn't Behance use technology to prevent "right clicks" of member images?[/h]

We have spent much time researching the options and discussing the issues with other major content hosting sites. For the following 3 reasons, Behance does not use any "flash capsules" or other tricks to prevent images from being saved:
(1) Screencapture will work anywhere on web anyway. Regardless of what mechanism is used by any site in the world, a simple keystroke enables a user to capture an image of anything on the web and save it as a jpeg. We, and other major content hosting sites, have come to realize that adding more code and obstacles to prevent a right-click save only increase the number of problems that users encounter.
(2) The Behance Network is a powerful engine for getting blogs to write about your work, and many leads for job opportunities come from the "press effect" that members experience in Behance. For the 98% of members that elect to allow reposting of their work "with attribution" (via the extensive copyright options available in the "privacy settings" tab for every project), the "right click" to save option is helpful in promoting work and getting new business.
(3) Many browsers are more likely to display images poorly (or inconsistently) if technology is used to put a flash "capsule" around them and prevent saving the image. Our team is always open to suggestions and follows the advances in technology to ensure that the Behance Network is the optimal experience for its participants.

Well, they do have a point. The disabled right-click is quickly becoming a non-issue for anyone looking to steal images. I guess it all boils down to small images sizes for any kind of true protection.
