Kevin, open one of my images and click on it, then you can see the detail that your images lack, you also might either slow the shutter, or pump in some extra color in post processing. https://www.flickr.com/photos/136279335@N04/ You are zooming in way too far and losing detail, you need Nikon Ninja skills to get in closer, not just a bigger lens.
An inferior lens brand, that will not work well with future Nikon cameras because Nikon will favor their own lenses in new camera designs.
