Hi

After an older post I have ordered my new lens.
Nikon AF-S 55-300mm DX G VR f/4.5-5.6
After a chat at a Nikon dealer who told me that the 70-300mm lens was slightly better but mainly if I had a full frame camera.
Their price was £239 which was a bit high.
So after a search I found one brand new with Nikon world wide warranty for £167.99, £70 in my pocket.
Cant wait.

For that price, I would say that the lens will be a 'Grey Import' and wouldn't be covered by the Nikon European warranty, where is it coming from ??, saying that, I bought my 55-300 a couple of years ago, and I knew at the time it was a 'grey Import' and have no problems with it, if you do buy it and have any problems, it will have to be sent back to the store where you bought it, if it comes with a European warrenty card, you should be covered.

Just had a quick look on eBay, and found one seller, selling that lens for £167.99, the seller is based in the U.S, so the warranty won't be any good here in the U.K

According to Nikon UK Im covered.
But as you point out it is confusing if you Google world wide warranty.
Thanks for warning.

Looks like your covered, I know a lot of grey imports in the past didn't come with any warranty cards, I bought my Nikon D70 back in 2004 from a camera store in Gran Canaria, the warranty card was stamped Nikon Europe B.V, and when I got home I registered it online with Nikon U.K, and it went on with no problems, not that I've ever needed to send it in for repair, I've just bought a P7100 off Amazon and the warrenty card was stamped Nikon Europe B.V, and have registered that with no problem, as long as it does have the warranty cards, it looks like you will be o.k and hopefully you won't need it repaired, I've had mine a couple of years and it's a cracking lens .....

Hi all, and thanks again for replies.
Found time to get out and shoot a few shots.
I have found that camera shake is a problem as is the wind so need to make sure I'm more stable or on the tripod.
Seems to like a lot of light, but then i need to learn a lot more about camera settings etc.
Some of the pic's I took with camera settings, please feel free to reply with suggestions.

When using a tripod with the 55-300, turn off the VR function. VR is for hand held ONLY! When shooting hand held with the 55-300, use shutter speeds of at least the focal length, ie: 1/300th of a second.

Thanks for help. Why turn off VR, I know it;s stability but why not just leave on ??

VR is for being hand held. If the camera is mounted on a tripod it may interpret slight movements in the scene as you moving and may cause blurring in your photo. Nothing extreme but you could lose the sharpness of the picture.
