Got out with the reversed 50mm f/1.8 D again today.

Great! What a charming yellow/orange flower!
I ordered a reverse-mount ring the other day (it'll cost me less than 10$, shipping included). I think I'll try it first with the "made in Russia" 58mm f/2 (m42, 52mm filter tread, made for Zenit and Praktica)... This one (but with the screw mount, not the K bayonet): http://goo.gl/QpUloY :)

Olympus PEN+Nikon bayonet adapter+reverse lens adapter+58mm f/2. Taken under very poor light (didn't have time enough to set it properly, so I used ISO 2000 - sloppy it is, but I was eager to get just ANY results:rolleyes:)

f/2, 1/20 sec, about 20% was cropped, mini-tripod)

just for the sake of comparison - this is the closest you can get to the object (earphones) in a "regular" way with the same combo (f/2, 1/40 sec, handheld):

I can help you with that as I just bought a full set of Kenko extension tubes. You definitely do have to get closer and you loose light but that might not necessarily be a bad thing if you're stopping down your lenses anyways to get better depth of field. I used all three stacked and a 105 VR 2.8 to get to 2-1 and it stopped down to F4. Ridiculously small depth of field. Half a mm maybe less. I did retain all my exif data and auto focus but you'll find you do most of your focusing manually and by moving your tripod forward and back. Hope its a sturdy tripod!

So there are extension tubes out there that will retain AF and metering for the Nikon DSLR's? Cost?
