.......I took a shot with the G wide open and was a bit disappointed in the sharpness. Spoke to the boss about it - he is quite knowledgable about these things - and he said "open it up to f8.0 and you will see how sharp it is".........

Going from f/1.8 to f/8 is not 'opening it up'. It's stopping it down or closing it down.

OK I went in this morning quite prepared to make a purchase but ...

I took a shot with the G wide open and was a bit disappointed in the sharpness. Spoke to the boss about it - he is quite knowledgable about these things - and he said "open it up to f8.0 and you will see how sharp it is"

Thanks boss but I want to shoot at wide aperture - f8.0 defeats the purpose, or am I missing something?

I think I will be buying the D at some point in the future

The 50mm 1.8D is not the kind of lens that you buy in the near future or take weeks to think about buying ,comparing and mulling over.

With your attitude you are not going to make it very long here. If does not matter who merged the thread you should never call anyone names. This is your last warning.
Continue your threats, but heaven forbid you take responsibility for being in error in moving this thread... as well as being too lazy to do anything other than closing the other thread due to a report of improper behavior, and ignoring my attempts to discuss it with you.

This is not the first time I have encountered "my way or the highway" moderators in forums. You are heavy handed and unjustified in your actions. But if you feel I have no place here because I am willing to point that out, please feel free to delete my account, so long as that includes removing all of my posts.

Sheesh!
