50mm 1.8G vs 40mm 2.8 micro? Also a few new pics....

I was a guest at a wedding last weekend so took my 40mm micro lens as it usually takes nice portraits but it was a dull day and dark inside but didnt want to use flash so was struggling a lot even at higher ISOs. So got me wondering if the 50mm 1.8G would be better day to day lens? How do they both compare for different subjects?

Anyway, these pics are taken from the previous weekend in the English Lake district, the first nice weather weve had this winter so got my camera out for its firs outing of 2014.

Critique welcomed as always please

(Nikon
D5100 sigma 10-20mm +/- ND grad filter)

I dropped and cracked my nd grad filter whilst positioning myself for the waterfall shots so the sky is a bit brighter than Id like

Several of the photos you put up there would have benefited more from a wider angle lens such as an 18mm to 28mm range.

Thanks for the useless feedback.
as already stated they were taken on sigma 10-20mm lens, mostly at 14mm.

I apologize if I missed something but am curious why the derogatory "useless feedback"??? I checked back to the original and did not see the sigma mentioned, just the 40 macro and a 50mm. Also, the EXIF is not displaying so that would not have clued us...

Even if it was there and missed it, I guess a more polite way of saying what you did might have been in order... He was only trying to provide what you asked for...

Anyway, have a great day!

well it just goes to show they dont know much about photo evaluation if they cant see that its been taken with a wide angle lens, so yes the feedback was useless to me and anyone else.
This is generally a friendly forum, and i hope it stays that way too

It's where you stand. If i stand back far enough, my 50mm shot could look like your 18 mm shot. No?
Anyway, here is my evaluation on the waterfall. I would have tried spot metering on the rocks, this way your sky wouldn't have been. Blown out as much, and could have been easily fixed in PP.

Now that I'm sitting in front of home computer and not looking at this on a Nexus7, I really like picture 3 and 5.
I like the sky and the land contrast, and of course picture 5 is just way cool.

Oh! Aren't we in a bad mood today?

First, you should have posted two different posts. your question about the 50 vs the 40 should have been in a post by itself. Then, the request for feedback, well, there are some guidelines that ask people to post ONE (1) picture per day for feedback. If you post 20, just don't expect the impossible.

I hope your mood does improve.
