My favorite setup for my 200-500 is a little different that you don't see everyday. I use a power chair but can still stand and walk some. But for long hours of waiting for birds, I need to be in my chair. Tripods are a pain in the but to use from a chair due to the legs being where the chair needs to be. So I either hand hold it. And when I do i have the VR on sport unless my SS is below 1/800 sec. Then it goes to normal. My favorite setup though is to use a monopod. But with a Gimbal style head on it. It works so well I love it. I got my cheap Gimbal off of ebay for $99.00. It works good enough for me. I can sit for hours and not get fatigued from holding it. I either have the VR turned off or on sport. Really depends if I remember to turn it off or not.
