I have used Meike grips on my D200, D300, D700, and D800. All work/worked fine and I have been very happy with the grips. I almost always have a grip on the cameras since I do a lot of portrait work and switch to vertical lots and having the extra shutter button and controls is very useful.

Curious Glenn, which L bracket are you using?

I have a generic one that I use which works on all of my cameras from the D700, D7000 and D800. You've probably seen it before on my command control thread.

The more popular ones are the really right stuff and Kirk for those who uses arca-swiss compatible ballheads. They are a must have if you are working in a studio.

With buying used, there is likely no way for me to know if it's a copy. But I will likely post in the wanted thread first in hopes there is someone here with a real one they are willing to part with, at a price I can afford. I'd be asking now, but I just don't have the money yet to pay for one! Lol :)

Thank you very much for the heads up! :D

yes, you wont be able to tell. when mine came, I was very confused because I was certain it was a mistake. it had the nikon rubber logo on the bottom with all the little written information like the real one and inside (that sits up against the camera bottom) the sticker was there with a serial number and it was very genuine looking. anyone could sell it for a huge profit and they wouldnt know. I compared it to a real nikon grip. almost no difference. build, feel , quality.

Thanks to comments on here, the Pixel grip is on order. Good ol' Amazon should drop it in before Christmas. I have done this on the promise of a more solid connection than the okay Meike grip already in place. I shall report back as the Pixel grip is £20 more expensive.

By gum but Amazon's efficient. The Pixel grip arrived this morning. It's a keeper. The connection is more solid and I already feel happier with it in comparison to the okay Mieke. The build is slightly better, the buttons more "mature" and it even has a USB port for "firmware updates" (I assume for the body, which seems utterly pointless but we shall see). I have so much redundant kit to shift ...

I use Meike grips for both my D600 and D7000 no issues with them what so ever.

been using my no name grip and so far its just fine. but I glued the shutter in open mode. what I did was move the shutter dial lock, to the lock position, then used the tiniest drop with a needle in the area the dial will be in open, then slid the dial to open and now its glued in the open position. I always need it on. but other than that it came with 2 batteries and they work great. so far so good. great deal. I feel I got my moneys worth than if I would bye a nikon.

but bottom line, grip no grip, nothing feels better than those pro cameras (D3/D3s/D4) but I love heft though..

check this video out.

Fake Nikon MB-D12 Review For D800 Pixel Vertax - YouTube

it is for the d800 but its relevant to any nikon camera imo.

I owned no name BG made in china and replaced it with the OEM grip.

The no name has plastic plate, joystick was really hard to use, the buttons feels more mushy too.

Though the fake grip has a +1 for material they use on the bottom of the grip, for whatever reason it's more grippy than the real one.

Pretty sure the real grip is weather sealed too and not the fake one

if youre abusive to your equipment and it gets banged around a lot and you shoot in the rain then go with nikon if it makes you feel at ease. I wouldnt shoot with my D3 in the rain let alone a d800 or d600 or ever even with my 3 F5's. im not taking any chances. I work hard to buy my gear and I take care of it. hell no would I shoot in the rain. no way. if youre making so much money that you have no issue going into the rain. feel free. I shoot weddings and I feel 110% confident in the grip to handle the very rough at times dance floor situations ive gotten into. my gear has gotten elbowed many occasions. I feel completely sure the grip will hold up. and if not, ill buy another for $30 hahaha im more worried with the flash shoe stress point breaking. so much weight on such a small area. and not to mention the amount of G's on it when I swing it from shoulder to take a shot. but the grip? Im the happiest person on earth with the purchase.

im very happy with what I bought. and I would buy it over and over. we all have choices in what we buy. for me, not a single complaint. I say, for the price, I can suffer through it all, but havent had to yet.

I got my Zeikos in the mail. I like it! Only gripe about it so far is that, when you use the scroll button to change your aperture, if you go too fast, it repeats. For instance, when I scrolled quickly to get to 1.8, it would toggle b/t 2.2 and 3.whatever. I'll play with it some more when I have a chance. It comes with internal mounts for the stock battery and for 4 AA batteries.
