3D printed filter holder for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens | Nikon Rumors

I read this today, and while I would have otherwise thought, "Yeah, that's cool", and moved on, I had also read yesterday in a Facebook post by a friend that their local library provides 3D printing at "cost" ($.35 a gram, which seems to be about right from the calculations that followed in the thread), all you need is a .STL file.

Now, this guy is selling these for 9 Euros plus shipping, but I wonder if he's be willing to sell the plan (for the same amount minus shipping - or less) provided that you sign a statement saying affirming that you will print one only for personal use and not share the file? (a risk, I know)

Makes me wonder just how soon ordering replacement parts will be a thing of the past? Get a file and go to your local library.

Oh boy, you might be onto something. I looked into the Lee system and to tell you the truth, it's not much diff than holding a loose filter in front of the lens up against the ears of the hood. I've actually done this but because you can't eliminate stray light from entering behind the filter, it doesn't work that well in all situations. Then came along the Fotodiox freearc system which addresses this issue. But for almost $300 us dollars without filters seems pretty expensive.
