34 days till Africa...

Africa is fast approaching and I am finding myself thinking "Do I have everything". Well the simple answer is no LOL...

I am still waiting on my 2nd EN-EL18 Battery and dual charger to arrive.

I need to update my clothing situation and get some easy drying, dirt hiding, non ironing clothing. That is not only light weight but can be cool and warm at the same time. This is due to visiting numerous climates that will include deserts and rainforests. So even a light weight water proof jacket is on the cards.
Hiking boots are on the shopping list too as my other pairs fell apart....

I also need to do a test run with packing to see what I can physically take with me. I am able to take 2 bags, but luckily one has a zip on bag which can be used to carry a 2 litre camel back and used for a day pack.

So many things and so little time... Am excited. :)

How are you set for flying and biting bugs? Do you think you'll need one of those hats with the mesh veils?
Dave I think if I have a good DEET based repellent I will be fine. My sleeping bag has a midge net over the head section. And of an. Evening I can wear long shirts and pants.

Don't know where you're going in Africa but watch out for airport customs, they can be buggers when it comes to allowing camera equipment in and what ever you do, don't take any photos of the airport, that gets them real upset. You can ignore this advice if you're going to South Africa, Namibia and Kenya.

I am starting in Kigali Rwanda going over to Nairobi then down to Capetown via overland coach. Only airports I will be landing in are South Africa and Rwanda.

Are you sure? I got this email a few days ago!!!

Hi there
As you may be aware there are going to be some elections held early next month in Kenya. Last time this happened there was some hostility in Nairobi.
We have no reason to think that this would happen again however we want to be prepared and let our travellers know in advance. At this stage nothing has been cancelled and no changes have been made to the tours, this is just a courtesy notification to our travellers. There have been no changes to the travel warnings and our operator is keeping a close eye on the situation.
If anything changes we will let you know ASAP.

Regards
