24-85mm f2.8-4 D - IF AF lens

all, anyone here had experienced on using the above lens and have any comments. Been saving up $$$ to grab a 24-70mm f2.8 but seem to take forever so I have to find the alternative. Been using 85mm and 50mm but need to have a lens that can bring me some conveniences.

Which body will you be using it with? If you're on DX, I'd go with the Nikon 17-50 or Tamron 16-50, both 2.8 and with great IQ.

I wouldnt touch that lens but thats just me. it was a horrible performer in the film days. consider the tamron 28-75 2.8 or the nikon 24-85 G
